As you might know, I spend a good deal of time listening to podcasts, whether that's when I'm getting ready for work or for bed, when I'm resting my eyes during lunch (gotta fight that eye strain from staring at a computer all day), or when I'm out walking the dogs. Typically, I'm listening to "make me a better human" type of podcasts, like ones educating me about local, national, and international news and politics and ones relating to writing, editing, and publishing books.
But sometimes I listen to a podcast just for fun. And Bubble is that and more.
I found Bubble as a recommendation from NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour, another podcast that I listen to (mostly) for fun. They described it a satirical serialized science fiction podcast with sharp dialogue and monster-killing (though I personally would call it more urban fantasy than science fiction). So I thought, "Okay, I'll give this a try."
Now, I'm not an audiobooks fan (I have a hard time focusing on audio and not letting my brain wander). But I loved all eight episodes of Bubble.
The characters are light and funny, led by a kick-ass woman. There's action in every episode. There are jokes in every episode. Every episode made me smile and kept my interest. I only had to rewind when the dogs barked too much, which is akin to a miracle for me when listening to pretty much anything.
Now, to be fair, Bubble is like an adult dystopian version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so I was always going to love it. But you should check it out! Unless adult language and humor aren't for you. Bubble is definitely meant for the 18 and up crowd.
From the creators of Bubble: "Welcome to Fairhaven, a literal Bubble of corporate utopia set amid the wild, imp-infested Brush. The first scripted comedy series from Maximum Fun, Bubble tells a tale that is both contemporary and otherworldly, as a small band of monster killers struggles to make ends meet and find love in a nightmarish version of the gig economy."
