So Layla's pretty much an awesome bad-ass. When the story opens, she's just a run-of-the-mill bad-ass, teaching people how to fight with swords for fun. Like that's cool and all, but not useful in real life.
Enter the zombie apocalypse. Now Layla's skill with a blade is crucial to survival. And that's not all she brings to the table. I don't want to say too much more (spoilers), but Layla is spunky and independent, yet she'll risk everything to protect the ones she loves. I haven't read the rest of the series yet, but I plan to.
