So I've decided to get in on this whole Women Crush Wednesday (#WCW) thing. Whether in books, movies, TV, or actual people in real life (gasp!), I admire so many women. Why not share them with you?
For this inaugural WCW, I've chosen Arya Stark. With the Game of Thrones season 7 premiere this past Sunday, she's been on my mind. Plus, I love her so much that my roller derby name is inspired by her (partially anyway--the other part is inspired by The Lion King).
And why do I love her so much?
Warning: Light spoilers for Game of Thrones ahead. Read at your own risk.
Right from the start, Arya defies the ladylike future assigned to her. She's more interested in swordplay and bows and arrows than dancing or stitching. She's also a good person--at least at the beginning. She tries to save her friend from Joffrey, and she doesn't let people--even bad people--die in a fire.
Sure, she turns a little (ok, a lot) dark as the years go by. But can you blame her after all that bad stuff that happens? Instead of whining about it and getting herself killed, she survives and, more importantly, learns. Now she's a complete and utter badass, ready to get her revenge. And I hope she gets it. And then stays alive and gets her "happily ever after." (Yes, yes, I know, I'm delusional if I think George R.R. Martin is going to dole out "happily ever after"'s left and right when everything is said and done...but that doesn't mean I can't hope!)
