Women Crush Wednesday: Mellie Grant

This week: President Mellie Grant, Scandal (TV series)

Ok, to be honest, I've hated Mellie throughout most of Scandal. But this past season (six), she really grew on me. I think it started when she left Fitz and started doing things on her own, instead of as Fitz's wife. Plus, I love Olivia too--there'll be a WCW for her some time soon--and her leaving Fitz opened the door for Olivia and Mellie to become allies (and for me to like Mellie).

For me, all that culminated in the season six finale--which I just watched last weekend because I'm terrible at watching TV in real time--when newly inaugurated President Mellie Grant says this:

"I have a valet and a dresser waiting for me to finalize my outfit for the ball. For the other 44 presidents, that took all of 10 minutes, but for the lady president that means choosing a dress that will impress the New York fashion blogs without insulting the Washington conservatives. So rather than sit here and discuss the ways I might die today, I’m going to go pick an outfit now so I can be done with that nonsense, so I can focus on what’s really important: running the damn country."

I tried and I tried and I tried to find a video clip of this, but alas, I couldn't. It's a shame too because Bellamy Young's delivery is perfection.
